Philippines Hotel Collapse Death Toll Rises to 20
According to ABS-CBN, the latest recoveries were made between Monday and the early hours of Tuesday as search and rescue operations continued at the disaster site in Angeles City, located in the Luzon region.
Authorities said most of those who died were construction workers. Officials noted that roughly 70 people had been working on the project, but the majority had already left for the weekend when the structure gave way.
Emergency responders cautioned that the final casualty count has yet to be determined, with operations still underway. Earlier statements from the Bureau of Fire Protection in Central Luzon and the Angeles City government indicated that the number of victims could change as rescuers continue clearing the wreckage.
The disaster occurred on May 24 when the nine-story building, still under construction, suddenly collapsed in Angeles City. The incident triggered a large-scale response involving firefighters, disaster management personnel, engineers, and other emergency agencies working to locate victims and assess the cause of the collapse.
