Philippines Building Collapse Death Toll Rises to Twenty

(MENAFN) The number of fatalities from the collapse of an under-construction hotel building in Angeles City, located in the Luzon region of the Philippines, has risen to 20 after rescuers recovered seven additional bodies, according to reports citing local officials.

Local media outlet reported that seven more bodies were retrieved between Monday and early Tuesday as search and recovery operations continued at the site.

Authorities said most of the victims were construction workers. Around 70 workers were reportedly present at the site, though many had left for the weekend at the time of the incident.

Officials from the Bureau of Fire Protection in Central Luzon and the Angeles City government previously stated that the death toll remained uncertain as rescue efforts were still ongoing.

The nine-story building collapsed on May 24 in Angeles City, triggering a large-scale response involving firefighters, disaster response teams, and structural engineers.
